myDesk DaaS Solution

myDesk in the Public Cloud
To overcome the cost hurdles associated with semi-private clouds, Austraserv have turned to the public cloud as our hosting provider. Public clouds are managed by respected enterprises such as Amazon Web Services or Azure and provide highly available and secure platforms for hosting desktops. In addition, public clouds include built-in Microsoft operating system licenses for Windows Server 2008, which can be used along with a Microsoft RDS CAL as a lower cost cloud desktop operating system.
myDesk can provide a unique and ideal solution for rapidly and inexpensively desktop provisioning to users.
myDesk offers hosted desktops on a monthly subscription or a pay-as- you-go model, allowing customers to trade capital expense for operating expense, lowering the total cost of ownership for the entire IT infrastructure.
myDesk in Hybrid Cloud
The majority of DaaS offerings are provided by companies who build a semi-private cloud in their data center. The DaaS company takes on the cost and complexity of implementing the virtual desktop infrastructure, and then, in a sense, rents out a portion of this infrastructure to its customers. Vendors that build their own data center typically use well-established virtualization platforms, such as those by VMware or Citrix and offer Microsoft desktop operating systems such as Windows 7.
The costs associated with building the data center and providing the Microsoft operating system place the price tag for this type of DaaS too high to push DaaS into the mainstream. In addition, most DaaS companies require significant commitments for desktop usage, further increasing the price tag for semi-private DaaS solutions.
